Notes
|
The Spotted Pike Characin is an interesting schooling fish from the Amazon. Growing to around a foot in length, this fish is not generally aggressive towards others unless they are small enough to be made into a quick meal.
An aquarium with a lot of open swimming space, dim lighting and quiet tankmates is an absolute requirement for keeping B. maculata. This species can startle easily and damage itself on the various tank decor. Dim lighting and some floating plants will help keep your Spotted Pike Characin calm. If possible, keep groups of this fish together in a large show tank. Tankmates that will occupy the lower regions of the aquarium are recommended, as these fish will keep to the upper regions near the surface. Use a tight-fitting canopy with no escape areas.
These fish are carnivorous and require a meaty diet. Live foods may be necessary.
