Notes
|
Serrasalmus manueli is a large Piranha species from South America, which grows to an adult length of 14" or more.
These Piranhas are very distinguishable from other species. Their bodies are long and slender, their heads large and long, and their bottom jaws stick out considerably. The eyes are large and orange in color, while the silver body has a rusty-orange spot behind the gill-plate, and a dark spot behind that. As this Piranha matures, it becomes less slender and starts to display a more traditional round, "tall" Piranha-like appearance.
These fish will not generally accept tankmates, unless in a school with its own kind in a very large tank. As a quick and agile species it requires a lot of swimming space.
Feed a typical carnivorous Piranha diet of live foods and the like.
