Notes
|
The Fahaka Puffer is not often seen in the hobby, mostly due to its size and aggression. This puffer is intolerant of its own kind and is difficult to keep with other fish species as well. Its powerful beak can inflict serious damage to tankmates, and so the Fahaka Puffer is best kept on its own in an aquarium of over 100 gallons.
These fish mainly occure in the Nile River in Africa, as well as other African river systems. Their water hard and the pH should be neutral and not allowed to fall below 7.0. These fish sometimes enter brackish water in their natural habitat, and can tolerate a salinity level of 1.003 to 1.005.
T. lineatus will eat a variety of meaty foods including live fish, mollusks, shrimp, etc. It will catch and eat any fish it can fit into its mouth.
Sexing information is unknown and breeding hasn't been reported in home aquariums.
